Looking for a fun and meaningful volunteer opportunity for your team? Want to make a real impact in your local parks this Earth Day? Join the City of West Des Moines Parks and Recreation for our second annual Trash Bash on April 22, 2026! Last year, our amazing volunteers collected 2,504 pounds of trash—can we beat that record this year? Gather your team, roll up your sleeves, and help us keep our parks clean and beautiful. Let’s make a difference together! How It Works: 1. Team Up: Form a team with friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers—or join as a large group. Create a fun team name and pick a captain to register your team. 2. Registration: Only one person needs to register the team. Cleanup locations will be shared with team captains closer to the event. Please include your team name, number of members, and completed waivers (which will be emailed to you). More details will be sent to the captain before the event. 3. Event Day: Meet at your registered site at 1pm. A staff member will check you in, provide equipment, and review safety rules. Teams may clean at the registered site or another City park (but must bring trash back to designated locations). Return to your registered site by 3 pm to return equipment. 4. Celebrate: Join us at The Pelican Post (265 50th Street, WDM) at 4pm to celebrate your hard work with a free beverage—thank you, Pelican Post! We will notify team captains of total weight of garbage collected.
